Welcome to Buckeye Farmstead! This is the place where I can share how I incorporate homemade recipes, family, and all things farmsteading.
We live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Though we are both very much still a part of the modern wind and grind of day-to-day life that most of us are accustomed to, we are working to live a more self-sustaining, homemade lifestyle.
I am a nurse by trade and an educator. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. There is so much to learn! I have found that educators make a difference when they truly care about their students. I tell my students “Just by taking this next step in your education, you are changing your family tree. You are making waves that will ripple out to your children and children’s children. Your nieces and nephews will also see the difference you are making and they too will be inspired to do more and be more.”
When we learn a new skill or trade we have leveled up. Some may not see it this way when you are talking about learning a new recipe, or skill applicable to your home or farm, but to me, those are skills that are overlooked and underappreciated. These are some of the most valuable things we have to offer daily.
People may not be able to relate to your given trade or profession, but they can relate to cooking, living, family, and the home. This is the goal: Relatability, Connectivity, and Simplicity. Life is already complicated from 9 to 5 (or noc shift hours), let’s make what we do fun and inspiring!
